As a David Lynch fan, it's strange how late I was in entering the world of Twin Peaks. The first season of that show is generally agreed to be near-perfect, but I'm not interested in analyzing the work of Lynch and the actors, the excellent writing, etc. For me the show is so damn good because I can't quite understand what it is doing to me. What started as a strange meditation on good and evil quickly became more and more terrifying, as Twin Peaks eventually reminded me in more and more ways of how evil exists and works in the lives of ordinary people, while they go about doing ordinary things.
I eventually became so scared of Bob that I couldn't sleep and had to stop watching the show toward the end of season 2. But Bob continues to scare me--and I mean it. Not at all in a fun slumber party kind of way. Bob is terror.
